1.   Several kinds of fishes possess the power of producing electricity. They use this natural gift as a protection against larger creatures. Anyone that touches them receives an electric shock, which may be fatal. Some fishermen lose their lives in this way. Some people take the risk of diving into the sea to study sea-life. Others dive in search of pearls and other valuable materials, which they can obtain at the sea. Some others dive in order to get the riches of the treasure ships that wrecked and sank in the past.

2.   The platypus is a very strange animal which lives on in south-eastern Australia. It has a beak and webbed feet like a bird. It doesn't have feathers and it can't fly. The platypus is a mammal and its body is covered with fur. It lives near rivers and it can swim very well. It eats plants and builds its nest in holes in the side of muddy river banks.

3.   Music is similar to language. There are many types of music such as classical, folk and popular music. Classical music is usually composed and played by professional musicians. Bach, Mozart and Beethoven are famous western classical music composers in the 18th and 19th centuries.

4.   People are trying to solve the problem of finding "green energy", which is clean and does not cause pollution. Thus, plants are grown everywhere and can be used as food and fuel. Sunflowers are grown for this reason. An old solution in India is to dry animal waste and form it into bricks for burning. The Chinese improve on this and keep the waste until it produces methane gas which in used for cooking.

5.   Last year James Moore went on a Global Challenge holiday to Cuzco in Peru. He spent four weeks in Peru. Half the time he worked in an old people's home. He had to make the bed, clean the rooms and cook food for the old people. He liked talking to the people who were very interesting. James told them about his family in England. For the last two weeks of his holiday, James walked the Inca Trail from Cuzco to the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu. It was a long and tiring hike. But the countryside was very beautiful and Machu Picchu was amazing.
